I photographed little Zach back in November and again this April. I wanted to blog them together to point out how much difference six months makes. Zach was much much more mobile this April and didn't want to sit still for photos at all. So we improvise and work with what he'll let us do. Doesn't mean we don't get photos. Doesn't mean it should be stressed over. Doesn't mean anything.

We photographed the November session in and around their home due to cool temps, but in April we were able to get out on the beautiful golf course for a few photos. Zach was moving around a bunch and we worked with him. No reason to make him angry. I adjusted to him and we got some great shots.

I like to consider myself an honest person. So I won't act like every photo shoot goes exactly as planned and as smoothly as we'd like. Our personalities don't match up with every client we work with. Our style isn't always what people expect. More often than not though, we do match up perfectly and our style is exactly what people are looking for. It is important to note that by style I mean the flow of the photo shoot, not the result. The results speak for themselves in our photos. How we go about a photo shoot and how much you enjoy the shoot are extremely important. If you like a controlled environment where every photo is pain-stakingly agonized over or where we setup you up against props, you definitely don't match up to our style. If you want to have fun on your photo shoot and leave everything else behind for a few minutes, you've come to the right place.

So what does this have to do with Bethany and John? Well, I certainly felt like our shooting style and their expectations matched up perfectly. We had great conversation about life, Des Moines, and having fun while we shot. We covered a good amount of ground getting several different locations in to give them options. What I hope is that the photos not only serve as a reminder of this time in their lives together, but as a reminder of how much fun taking the photos were. The photos are meant to spark memories and the first memories that will come back to them is how the engagement photos went. I certainly hope they are good memories for these two because I know I really enjoyed working with them. Check out a few of our favorites below.

On a recent Sunday I photographed Alex, Mom and Dad in Valley Junction. And if you haven't heard us say it enough...Valley Junction is a great place for family photos, especially on a sunny day. All the alleys are great places to hide from the blinding sun. The day started off a little stormy but ended up being perfect for family photos. I can not believe little Alex is already 3 months old. Here are a few of my favorite from Sunday.

We have been really moving more towards lifestyle newborn sessions versus the posed newborn photos. I absolutely love taking photos of mom and dad just being at home with their little one. It's a time in your life that goes by so quickly and you forget just as quick. This is a session I have been looking forward to and they did not disappoint. After meeting Mom and Dad in March for their maternity session I could not wait to meet little Calvin. Thank you guys for inviting me back in to your home to capture this moment in your life. Congratulations!

What can I say about Carly... She is a little model. Constantly posing and tons of ideas of her own, like most little girls her age. Slowly as Mom and I were chatting she quit posing and started just being herself. Playing and dancing. Always a joy to photograph, thank you guys!
